Ye Olde Faithful: YSL Rouge Volupte Shine #12 Corail Incandescent

Wednesday, March 25, 2015

So my YSL Rouge Volupte Shines have made little cameos here and there on this blog. Orange Incandescent was featured in Three Ways to Wear an Orange Lip, while Pourpre Intouchable was one of my staples in Wintry Lips, and lastly Pink in Devotion was the lippie of choice in How to Make Your Eyes Look Bigger.

Then there's the one that started it all. Corail Incandescent aka YSL RVS #12, but always numero uno in my book.

PRICE AND AVAILABILITY

YSL Rouge Volupte Shines are available at Sephora and the US YSL Beauty site for $36.00 (0.15 oz).

WHY THE OBSESSION?
Yes, I realize inquiring minds may want to know why I own so many of these Rouge Volupte Shines.. especially when I rarely spring for more than a couple shades in any makeup range. For me to own 4 lipsticks with the same formula means that I'm obsessed. To understand my obsession, you'd have to close your eyes and imagine slicking on the beauty equivalent of a silk robe. It's comfortable and low maintenance. And when you're wearing it, you feel extremely aware of its presence on your lips because it's so damn pleasurable.

The formula is moisturizing and the finish glossy. From the YSL site, they claim that the hyaluronic acid spheres and moisturizing action emollients are to thank for all that delightful softening and smoothing action. It also lasts for a good few hours (~4) on the lips which is pretty great for a glossy formula. Also, the Rouge Volupte Shines fade evenly and leave a stain so you never look crazy with patches of lip color here and there. The colors in the range are all so beautiful and unique. Also quite different about RVS's are that the colors are midway between being opaque and sheer.

The scent profile can be a pro or a con depending on your taste. It smells fruity like.. a mango to me but the site says there's pomegranate extract in there. Whatever it is, I think it's awesome.. it reminds me of candy.

While I enjoy well designed packaging, it's never going to make or break an item for me. But I do think that YSL lipsticks are pretty iconic and do a nice job of jazzing up the vanity with its gold plating and intricate logo detail.

The only unfortunate thing is that there is no SPF.

SWATCH IT LIKE IT'S HOT

A hot, cajun coral that is... at least that is the description on the Sephora site for this particular shade. I love how bright yet wearable it is. It's got a red base but can lean pink or orange based on your undertone.

A whale of a swatch
The swatch above was meant to be two swatches- one done with a single swipe and the other with multiple swipes, but I quickly noticed that there was no difference. The first swipe is pretty intense and opaque so I ended up combining the two swatches into one mega swatch.

Below is the lip swatch and a pic of a typical FOTD I do with this color.

I'm trying to avoid purchasing more of these since I do like variety in my collection but there are two very beauteous and tempting new shades, Rose Intime and Ambre Indecent. GAH!
