amore pacific cc cushion spf 50 broad spectrum review 104 tan blush

The sensation that's sweeping many a nation is the Korean-born cushion compact. These are products that have been getting a lot of coverage (couldn't resist) in Western media and some very high profile beauty blogs. There are many varieties containing BB and CC creams for varying levels of coverage, but the main benefit is the natural, flawless-almost-airbrushed finish that can be achieved with these types of products. I would argue that these cushion compacts are the ideal base for anyone with dry to normal skin and is not particularly acne-prone (since they are generally not full coverage).

I purchased the AmorePacific cushion compact because it has earned wide acclaim as the best in the category time and time again. While the price tag is steep at $60, it comes equipped with a refill to cushion the blow. So it's like buying a cushion compact for $30, and not just any compact, the best compact... at least that is how I justified it to myself. :)

The shade below is 104 Tan Blush which is probably best suited for NC25-30 skin tones. I am a bit fairer, but usually get darker in the summer so I thought this would be a nice shade match for my summer skin. Unfortunately, the AmorePacific range of shades is one of the most limited that I've seen. There are only 4 offered to those of us shopping at U.S. beauty counters. They seem to only accommodate light to medium skin, ignoring the fairest and darkest consumers. Hopefully that will change in the future because this is an amazing product.

The cushion comes packaged in a substantial silver compact. Size-wise, it is comparable to say a MAC powder compact, or perhaps 2 Covergirl compacts stacked on top of one another. Once you open the compact up, you will see

  • a cushion applicator made of "ruby cell", a self-sterilizing antibacterial sponge
  • sitting on a white plastic divider which can be opened to reveal
  • the cc cream-soaked cushion

To apply the product, I just take the cushion applicator on the left, and press it into the sponge on the right. It will coat the cushion with a thin layer of fluid, which you can then use to press onto your face. I usually just tap it onto my forehead, cheeks, and chin, and then spread it out from there.

It applies a thin, even coat at a medium coverage, which will hide discoloration, mild redness, and uneven texture. It basically gives you skin that looks like skin. You can see it on both my hand and my face below.

The only complaint I had is that since the coverage is so thin, I basically have to wear concealer on my under eyes for my dark circles to recede. (That is, if I actually cared about covering them up.)

Below are before and after photos. I included a shot of a fully made up FOTD to show how it blends with other color cosmetics.

On me, this beautiful product wears for about 6 hours. This is a potential drawback for those with preferences for longer-wearing base products. I'd also wager that if you have oily skin, you may need to reapply sooner than that.
