And The Party Never Stops: Affordable Brights in Sleek Snapshots Palette

Tuesday, April 14, 2015

When I discovered that the Sleek i-Divine eyeshadow palette in Snapshots existed, I was immediately drawn to it. At first I couldn't place my finger on the reason why because I've never actually worn brights before. It became very clear one night when I was scrolling through my photo library looking to change my background. It's a mundane task, but it has to be done every once in awhile because I get easily bored. Well, I'm happy I did because I figured out why I wanted the palette so much! It was because it reminded me of these two gems..

Sans the bright yellow, these are all the colors represented in Snapshots. So in hopes that the colorful palette would bring me to my happy place like those two fantasy landscapes... into the cart, the palette went and arrive at my doorstep it did, a few weeks later.

Sleek is a UK based budget beauty brand known for their blushes and these i-Divine eyeshadow palettes. The palettes contain 12 mineral-based shadows that are vegan friendly and not tested on animals. This one specifically came with 7 shimmers and 5 mattes. The packaging is slim and sturdy (like a lacrosse player!) and the finish is matte. While I love the palette as a whole, the quality of the shadows vary and as such, I'll be rating each shade separately. Also, see below for detailed shots and ingredients list.

Swatches

I've given each shadow marks based on its pigmentation, application, and blendability. A's are dreamy to apply and heavily pigmented. B's and C's are a bit less pigmented, harder to blend, and apply patchily. B's are of course, easier to manage than C's. Overall I have to say that I'm impressed with the quality. Most of the shadows swatched true to pan, or at least within 1-2 shades lighter than pan. Sleek is priced on par with drugstore brands and its performance is pretty consistent.

Summer Breeze - matte seabream, not quite mint nor quite turquoise. C
Martini - shimmery silver/white. A
Kiwi Flower - shimmery spring green. B
Lotus Flower - shimmery lilac. A
Hummingbird - shimmery true turquoise with golden shimmer. A
Tequila Sunrise - shimmery acid orange. A
Sand Walker - matte sandy beige. B - patchy at first, but after you use the top layer of product, becomes easier to apply.
Washed Ashore - matte camel / burnt orange. B - patchy at first, but after you use the top layer of product, becomes easier to apply.
Sunset - shimmery carnelian red. A-/B+

Looks
This product is one of the most wallet-friendly way for color-shy girls to try on looks that are not neutral. Before picking up this palette, I'd been eyeing the Too Faced Sugar Pop Eyeshadow Palette ($36.00) and though the Sleek is not a perfect dupe, it has some similar colors. It's also possible to eke out many different looks from the bright and graphic to soft diffused hazes of color. I've been playing around with it a lot lately and these are just a few of the FOTD's that I'm really enjoying.

LOL at my face in the last row. Why so serious Joan?
