Soyedodam Organic Ginseng Hydrogel Sheet Mask Review

If you've joined me here on the blog before, you probably know that I really enjoy day sheetmasking on Sundays. Today, I broke out a hydrogel, and not just any hydrogel, the Soyedodam Organic Ginseng Hydrogel Sheet Mask at the request of one crazy snail lady. I'd been super excited to try this one so it was a real treat.

Soyedodam is a brand I've seen a lot of interest around as it is an organic brand that does not use parabens, mineral oils, synthetic dyes and fragrances in their products. It's also owned by a Korea Ginseng, which has been growing and distributing quality ginseng since its establishment in 1899.

Squee! Ginseng means firm, bouncy skin.

Why This Mask?

This mask is sold as an aloe, ginseng, and manuka honey mask, but if you look at everything else that goes into the making of this mask, it contains many more excellent ingredients for your skin. The soothing aloe, skin energizing ginseng, and rich skin-softening manuka honey are great. I was most excited about the ginseng which contains ginsenoside and phenol, working to brighten your complexion, lift unwanted pigmentation, and diminish wrinkles. There's also a free radical fighting cocktail of green tea, licorice, and fruit extracts, brightening arbutin (2%), and anti-aging star ingredient adenosine (0.04%). The addition of cucumber extract is also nice for its hydrating effects. If you've ever had a cucumber facial in a jjimjilbang (Korean spa), you know the feel. How Does It Perform?

Essence
This mask contains an entire bottle of watery essence. Much of the essence collects at the bottom of the package. To make this mask even more long wearing, Glow Recipe, the retailer from which I purchased the mask recommends applying this residual essence to your face first, and then gingerly placing the gel masks on your face, sealing the moisture in. The essence smells really faintly of beautiful botanical things. Maybe ginseng and flowers? I couldn't quite put my finger on any single note.

Mask Material
This is a hydrogel, so it is thicker than a sheet mask, non-porous, with a gelatinous texture. It feels wonderfully cooling. This mask is amazing for summer.

Fit
This mask is on the smaller side. It comes in two pieces. The first piece fits over your eyes and nose. The eye holes are not that large, so it adheres to the under eye areas well. There's no need to try and fit in an eye mask under this mask (what's commonly known as double-fisting). The nose flap on the other hand, did not stick on as well as the rest of the mask. The second piece covers the lower half of your face, fitting over your mouth. There is a small oval mouth piece that you can use on your forehead if the mask is too small to cover your face entirely.

Supported Wear Time
Though the mask contains a bottle of serum, I found it to not last as long as the 3CE mask from a few weeks ago. I wore the mask comfortably for a little over 30 minutes.

After FX
This mask was a real treat to wear. I expected amazing results afterwards. When I removed the mask, my skin looked and felt more calm, even, and FIRM. I couldn't really tell if there were any brightening effects, but my skin was adequately moisturized. It wasn't as moisturizing as other masks I've tried, so people who have normal - oily combination skin may really like this mask. I know that another snail addict, Holy Snails, has normal-combination skin and really enjoyed this one. It's not a holy grail mask for me, but I'm not mad at it. I would definitely repurchase this one, probably during the summertime. On my scale, I give it an A - approved items I would repurchase if I weren't a makeup hypebeast and loved shopping around.

Price
These masks are expensive at $9 per mask, but I justify all of my mask purchases by telling myself it's much cheaper than going in for a real facial.
