Lioele Triple the Solution BB Cream SPF 30 PA++ Review and Swatches, full coverage bb cream, Korean bb cream, NW15, NW20, NW25, NC15, NC20,NC25 neutral cool warm skin (1)

Fall Update: Please note that I have since found a way to make this cream work for me. I mix in a few drops of moisturizer to thin out the coverage, causing it to not slide into my lines, and ensuring it leaves a moisturizing finish, which serves as a barrier to the Fall and Winter winds! I've since started loving this product.

Today I'll be reviewing the Triple the Solution BB Cream with SPF 30 PA++ protection from the Lioele range. They make two BB creams, and this is the one that is targeted towards more mature skin types.

If you loiter around on Asian beauty shopping sites you are probably already familiar with Lioele. It's carried many places and just kind of reels you in with its adorable, princess-y packaging. Kind of like the packaging at le House d' Etude... Packaging similaries aside, Lioele is actually more of a mid-end brand targeted at women in their twenties, while Etude House is a road shop (or Korean drugstore) brand that is more targeted at teenagers. It's kind of like Lioele is Etude House's sorority big sister, if she were part of a chapter at a private university? I got nothin'.

Claims
Triple solution BB cream is a 3-in-1 makeup and skincare formula that helps (1) even out skin tone, (2) reduce appearances of fine lines and (3) sun protection. The natural yogurt powder and hyaluronic acid in this day cream (4) moisturizes your skin while tangerine and strawberry extracts (5) evens out skin tones over time.
5 big claims, let's test them out!

Ingredients
Water, Titanium Dioxide, Dipropylene Glycol, Butylene Glycol Dicaprylate/Dicaprate, Cyclopentasiloxane, Diphenylsiloxy Phenyl Trimethicone, Cetyl PEG/PPG-10/1 Dimethicone, Dimethicone, Glycering, Arbutin, Sodium Hyaluronate, Cyclohexasiloxane, Zinc Oxide, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, Magnesium Sulfate, Talc, Yogurt Powder, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Fragaria Vesca (Strawberry) Fruit Extract, Canaga Odorata Flower Extract, Tocopheryl Acetate, Adenosin, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Polyglyceryl-4 Isostearate, Ozokerite, Beeswax, Propylene Carbonate, Zinc Stearate, Diisostearyl Malate, Hexyl Laurate, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Dimethicone/Methicone Copolymer, Methylparaben, Phenoxyethanol, Butylapraben, Propylparaben, Fragrance, CI 77491, CI 77499
I've run the list through CosDNA and highlighted the only one that was marked as being an acne trigger above 1.

The standout ingredients are the Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide, two physical UV filters that I am a fan of in sunscreens; Sodium Hyaluronate, a form of Hyaluronic Acid that I rely on heavily to hydrate my dry skin, due to its astronomical capacity to retain water molecules. I also infuse HA into my skincare routine in the hopes that the studies are true as they have shown HA able to penetrate into the skin and perform cell-communicating functions, stimulating collagen production and elasticity in the skin. Supporting the whitening claims, we see Arbutin, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (totally a wizarding name, is it not? but it's just the scientific name for Licorice) Root Extract. There's also Fragaria Vesca (Strawberry) Fruit Extract. This is the first time I've seen this ingredient in a whitening formula, so that was interesting. Also, I want to give a little head nod to other anti-aging star ingredients Adenosine and Tocopheryl Acetate.

It comes in a pink, plasticated tube packaging with a gold pump. This BB comes with 50 ml of product, which is a fair amount, especially since a little goes a long way as you'll see below.

Formula

On average, Asian bb creams have more coverage than Western bb creams, but most formulas offer medium coverage. On the left side of the above picture, you can see that this one has got a thicker formula which means it gives way fuller coverage. On the right, you can see that it covered up my green eyeshadow swatch completely.

It's got a semi-matte finish as you can once again see on the right.

Okay elephant in the room, there is only one color of this product available. But it's a bit of a chameleon in that it color matches cool and warm undertones in light skin. It's kind of a true neutral. I've got a light, yellowish complexion (about a MAC NC20), and this cancelled out the yellow in my skin and brought it back to middle ground. I would say this would suit NW15-20 and NC15-20 complexions.

Here's a Before & After

Have another Before & After. This one's a bit graphic though...

I tested over primer on the left hand side, and on its own on the right hand side.

Kids, sun damage is real.

So back to the 5 claims, from before... Did they check out?

ClaimResult
Evens out skin toneYes, it covered up a lot of my sun damage, i.e. the moles and freckles and it neutralized my dark circles a good measure
Reduces appearances of fine linesYes and no, it evens out the darker shadow caused by the receding wrinkles, kind of flattening everything like a canvas with its coverage, but the product settles into the fine lines
Sun protectionCheck check. It's got those physical uv filters on lock. I wore this out all day and didn't tan.
Moisturizes your skinYes and no, theoretically the ingredients should add some moisture back to the skin... in reality, I didn't find it moisturizing, but I didn't find it drying either which is pretty huge. If you've been reading the blog for awhile, you know I always mention my dry, flaky skin.
Evens out skin tones over timeCheck? This is difficult to assess at the moment since I've only worn this for a few weeks, but theoretically arbutin, which inhibits melanin production, should even out my hyperpigmentation. The sunscreen ingredients should also indirectly help even out skin tone over time as they will lessen free radical damage caused by UV rays. Unchecked, free radical damage can lead to excess melanin production.

I'd say overall the claims did check out. Let's see.. if I award 1 point for the first, third, and fifth claims and 1/2 point for the second and fourth claims... then 4 / 5 claims check out!

There are a few more details I want to mention. The bb lasts on the face for about 5-6 hours which is pretty average performance for any base product. I also think the semi-matte finish is pretty awesome for the hot and humid summers we get here in the Midwest, and making this cream suitable for normal to oily skin types as well.
I tried wearing this over different kinds of sunscreen. It didn't play that nicely with milk or lotion-type sunscreens, but it worked well over watery essence and gel-type sunscreens.
Oh and major ups, this product didn't break me out.

So in summary...

Pros Cons
Offers a lot of coverage, enough to cover sun damage, moles, freckles, hyperpigmentation, and redness; also neutralized dark circles a fair amount I'll list full coverage as a possible con as well, since some people prefer lighter coverage
Lasts a decent amount of time 5-6 hours Can accentuate wrinkles, fine lines and pores - update: I've found if you use a setting spray or a face mist, this helps make a more even canvas
Semi-matte finish, suited for normal to oily skin types Won't play nice with milk or cream sunscreens
Very neutral tone Only one tone
SPF 30 PA++ sun protection
Non-drying due to skin conditioning ingredient - Hyaluronic Acid, suited for dry skin types
Potentially lightens complexion and hyperpigmentation overtime due to arbutin and licorice root extract
Works well on its own, over primer, watery essence and watery gel sunscreens
No breakouts
Non-greasy finish

Final Thoughts

If you're looking for a full coverage bb cream in a neutral-fair tone that offers SPF, and you have taut, youthful skin, this would be one I would recommend to you.
