A slow and sensual unboxing of the July 2015 Mishibox - a Korean beauty subscription box. Confume. It's Skin. Missha. Kwailnara. MJ Care.

Well, it looks like hell must have frozen over, because I'm doing an unboxing! I'm not sure if I've mentioned this before, but I have a real problem letting others pick things out for me, being a control freak and all, especially about what goes on my face. But after salivating over the contents of last month's Mishibox (seen here at HolySnails), I thought, what the hey... Let's let someone else do the curating for a change.

Mishibox is a Korean beauty box subscription company that provides 6 products every month for $19.95. 4 of the 6 products I received are full-size. They're currently only in the U.S., but are hosting an international waiting list for the future, which you can join here.

Major ups to Mishibox for their informative insert! It shows details on everything in the box, including the price, size, and benefits of each product (in broad strokes).

IN MY JULY 2015 MISHIBOX

kwailnara (과일나라) touch therapy cacao pore clear nose sheet (sample)
It's a typical pore strip, but made with cacao extract and witch hazel. The value of the strip is $1.

mj care ( 엠제이케어) mask (full size)
They sent out charcoal, snail, seaweed, royal jelly, pearl, and green caviar masks. I received the charcoal. Each mask retails for $2.

kwailnara (과일나라) hand essence (full size)
Mishibox sent out three flavors, avocado, peach and blueberry. Mine is the blueberry. It's a hand cream rich in vitamins C and E. The peach flavor has vitamin A, and the avocado is rich in vitamin E. The value of the cream if $7.

missha (미샤) the style lip & eye makeup remover (full size)
They sent out either a regular or green tea makeup remover. The regular is the "extra-strength" kind, great for removing waterproof makeup, while the green tea is great for those with sensitive skin. I received the green tea variety. This is a full-size product that retails for $9-10.

it's skin (잇츠스킨) macaron lip balm (full size)
They sent out strawberry, green apple, grape, and pineapple lip balms. Mine is pineapple (!!!) which I'm happy about. It's a macaron. I'd be happy with any flavor. The value of this full-size product is $10.50.

confume ( 컨퓸) gold hair pack (deluxe sample)
This is an argan oil hair mask for the shower. It's also got coconut and almond oils for extra smoothing action. The full-size retails for $25.

Total value of my Mishibox: ~ allegedly $35.50
*I did some comparison shopping and I'd place the value of the box more around $25.. but you'd have to shop around at different retailers to round up all of these products, and pay for shipping.

kwailnara (과일나라) touch therapy cacao pore clear nose sheet (sample)
Ingredients: (not counting the plastic backing) water, silica, peg-12dimethicone, cacao extract, allantoin, witch hazel extract, methylparaben, titanium dioxide, red iron oxide, black iron oxide, fragrance

I don't have much use for this, since I don't use pore strips, but the material is gentler than most that I've used in the past. It doesn't smell like cacao as much as the fart of a bumblebee that's been snacking on too much cacao lol. That is, it's cacao, but it's a dank cacao. Mishibox customer service let me know that they decided to only distribute a sample of these pore strips, since they know some people don't use them. I appreciate the thought they put into the pick.

mj care ( 엠제이케어) mask (full size)
Ingredients: water, glycerin, butylene glycol, propylene glycol, charcoal extract (water/butylene glycol/charcoal powder 5%), aloe barbadensis leaf extract, portulaca oleracea extract, carbomer, arginine, simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) seed oil, butyrospermum barkii (shea) butter, allantoin, betaine, sodium pca, hamamelis virginiana (witch hazel) water, sodium hyaluronate, metylparaben, glyceryl stearate, caprylic/capric triglyceride, polysorbate 60, disodium edta, dipotassium glycyrrhizate, tocopheryl acetate, hydroxyethylcellulose, fragrance, propylparaben

I've tried MJ Care masks in the past, they're quite solid, especially for the price. They're definitely not my favorite in terms of mask material and fit, but they have the added benefit of being stocked at my local Asian market, so I reach for them every once in awhile. This charcoal mask is a nice summer mask for those with normal to oily skin. Which unfortunately, is not me. My cousin will benefit from this pick haha.

Ingredients: water, glycerin, cetearyl alcohol, mineral oil, dipropylene glycol, dimethicone, cyclopentasiloxane, glyceryl stearate, peg-100stearate, polysorbate60, sorbitonstearate, acrylates/c10-30 alkyl acrylate crosspolymer, triethanolamine, xanthan gum, blueberry extract, butylene glycol, disodium EDTA, methylparaben, propylparaben, blue 1, red 227, fragrance

It's just a regular old hand cream you can throw in your bag and be the office hero. The scent is not bad. Definitely not spot-on blueberry, but not offensive. I'm a bit overloaded with body lotions and hand creams so I'll find it a new home.

missha (미샤) the style lip & eye makeup remover (full size)
Ingredients: main ingredient: green tea extract 1%, mistletoe extract, portulaca oleracea extract

Ok, let's pause at the name. Lip & eye remover. ^^

I've tried this out already and think it does a pretty good job at removing most things. It does take a few extra swipes to get my eyeliner off, but it works, and the smell is nice. Seriously this beauty box business is like Christmas in July.. check it, there's even mistletoe extract in the formula.

it's skin (잇츠스킨) macaron lip balm (full size)
Ingredients (abbreviated): mineral oil, vitamin A, C, E, shea butter, cocoa butter, microcrystalline wax, chrysanthemum extract, titanium dioxide

I LOVE this thing! It's like someone had a sixth sense that I needed a new lip balm and sent the cutest incarnation of the thing over. Like seriously, there's a phrase for this "귀신 같이 알았네" or "gwishin gatchi aratnae". Which means it's freaky they knew, almost as if they were a ghost.

It smells awesome and it's the kind of balm that actually moisturizes your lips! If you want to pick this up on its own, I saw it over at RoseRoseShop and KollectionK.

confume ( 컨퓸) gold hair pack (deluxe sample)
Ingredients (abbreviated, apparently according to COSDNA, vs. what is listed on the product): Tocopherol, gold, phenoxyethanol, methylparaben, propylparaben, sulfur-4, sulfur-5 (gold, argan oil)

Lastly, the ingredients on this hair mask is awesomely minimal, which I really like because my hair is prone to getting buildup in it. This looks like it's compatible with my no-poo or low-poo lifestyle. Also, Mishibox didn't mention this on their card.. but there's GOLD in it?

MISHIBOX WIN!

I'm pretty jazzed that 4 of 6 products are keepers, especially since they're products I might not have discovered or chosen myself. This box was also a great value at about ~$25-35 of product for a cool ~$20 shipped.

The only drawback is that Mishibox isn't offering customized boxes (whether to one's skin type, or age, or otherwise) at this time, or anytime soon, but if you're just starting out with Korean beauty products, or you have people in your life with whom you can share the goodies that don't suit your skin type, you're golden.

Mishibox are about to open their store, based on the feedback they get from their customers on the products in the boxes. How smart. I'd stay tuned for that.

Thanks for reading! Are you subscribed to any beauty boxes? What do you like about them? What don't you like about them?

P.S. sorry, there was no TG2KB this week as I was figuring out iMovie just for fun. I'll be back next Thursday with a fresh one. In case you're curious, I filmed some tutorials of the looks below... The first one is up now here...

P.P.S. If you haven't checked it out, ShopatHome is doing a mega rebates event called Black Friday in July.. click here for more deets.. It's basically the Sephora VIB sale all over again.
