CosRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence Review,
source
I've been noticing that my reviews have been getting longer and longer, with me hitting peak skin'splaining in my "Make Me a Skincare Routine" post.

We're all busy people. Well, you're all busy people. I'm going to can it a bit on my verbal diarrhea and let the pics do most of the talking for this review.

CosRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence* (150 ml)

This clear, gooey essence features snail secretion filtrate at unheard of concentrations - 96%!

Ingredients: Snail Secretion Filtrate (96%), Betaine, Butylene Glycol,1,2-Hexanediol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Panthenol, Arginine, Allantoin, Ethyl Hexanediol, Sodium Polyacrylate, Carbomer, Phenoxyethanol

Ingredients analysis: I've mentioned before on the blog about the benefits of snail secretion filtrate to the skin. Snail secretion filtrate is snail mucin, the fluid secreted on the underbelly of snails, processed and filtered with water. Snail mucin is known to contain glycolic acid (increases cellular turnover), allantoin (wound-healing properties), and a host of other ingredients that offer nourishment to the skin. No snails are killed during the snail mucin harvest. The process has evolved so as to not harm the snails. To collect the mucin, the snails are placed on glass (or other surface) and administered a small electric shock to stimulate their glands into producing more mucin.
Sodium Hyaluronate is a close cousin to Hyaluronic Acid - a naturally occuring substance in our skin and joints that is known to plump wrinkles and increase hydration in the skin. Hyaluronic Acid molecules are able to hold 1000x their weight in water. Panthenol is another moisturizing agent, while arginine is an antioxidant.

How to Use: I use this twice a day. In the mornings, I use this as a moisturizer after I cleanse, tone, and treat my skin with actives. I then top it off with a sunscreen. In the evenings, I use the Snail 96 after cleansing, toning, treating with actives, and my first treatment essence. I follow up with the rest of my moisturizers - which change based on the way my skin feels.

It comes packaged in a clear plastic bottle with a black pump. A clear plastic cap is included for safe-keeping. The pump is a bit on the short side, making it necessary to tip the bottle while dispensing the product, but I like that it doesn't squeeze too much product out per pump. 2-3 pumps will cover your entire face.

The essence is clear, and the texture is super gooey. You can see the way it oozes onto the skin. If you clap your hands together and spread them apart, the Snail 96 essence also stretches apart like mozzarella cheese. Haha, sounds appetizing, doesn't it?

It's really different from all of the other snail products I've used, most of them being from the Mizon family of snail products... The AIO, the Snail Repair Eye Cream, the Sleeping Pack. The Mizons tend to look and feel like thick emulsions or thin creams... very similar to the Clinique moisturizer from their 3-step system.

There's no reason to worry though, because the texture is less off-putting than... well, I'd describe it as unique. There's also no real discernable smell.

CosRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence Review,

The Snail 96 spreads really easily and absorbs almost instantly into the skin. It dries down pretty quickly, after about a minute and I didn't feel like there was any film left behind. The skin is left looking pretty and dewy.

CosRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence Review,

I don't have dry, rough patches of skin on my face anymore to measure the effectiveness of my moisturizers, so I thought I'd splash out for one of those newfangled skin analyzers, $17.25 at Amazon.

According to the device, it performs amazingly well as both a hydrator and a moisturizer. The Snail 96 increased the oil content of my skin by 4.3% and the water content of my skin by a full on 8%. My skin does feel pretty balanced throughout the day after using the Snail 96. At about mid-day I'll rehydrate with some misting action, but other than that I leave it alone and the essence is enough.

Others have also reported that snail products help manage their acne, scars, and sun damage. I'm not sure if I've seen any of that because I'm using a vitamin C serum and retin-A, which have way more impact in those arenas.

Also, because the ingredients list is so short, I'm tempted to start using this on an eczema patch I have on my back. I'll let you know if my b'eczema gets any better with prolonged use of the Snail 96 in a future post!
