November Final Week K-beauty Launches

Hi all, these are the new K-beauty releases to wrap up November. Time is flying by.

Most are freshly announced, or only available on their official Korean websites. These products can be purchased through using a buying service like the one provided by Avecko.com. One of the first stores with international shipping to carry new releases is Tester Korea. At times, new releases will start popping up in their store within a couple of days, so make sure to check them out!

New Skincare at The Face Shop

Top Row: The Face Shop has three new cleansing oils out. From left to right they are the 'Real Brand Deep Cleansing Oil', the 'Real Brand Rich Cleansing Oil', and the 'Real Brand Calming Cleansing Oil'. They contain coconut oil, palm oil, and olive oil and retail for 18000 KRW each at The Face Shop Korea (the site doesn't allow me to link products directly).
Middle Row: There is a new Chia Seed line out. The Dry Skin Mega Post

Friday, November 27, 2015

My @Curology (0.012% tretinoin + other good anti-aging stuff) is back in stock. Which means my pores and fine lines are scared (my tret works to keep them at bay) but I'm gonna have to rely on my suboon (Korean word for moisture) squad to keep the prescription strength tret from drying out my skin. My squad right now... -left to right -Holika Holika 99% aloe vera gel - this I reserve for my neck and buzzum. -@indie_lee squalane facial oil - a middling not too thin, not too thick emollient oil that gently smoothes over dry flakes -@beyondcosmetics angel aqua cream - a watery bouncy texture much like the cult laneige sleeping pack that contains panthenol, shea butter, macadamia oil, squalane, sprouts and is also a properly formulated ceramide cream with all the ratios in all the right places. The brand is eco friendly and #crueltyfree. -@physiogel daily moisture therapy cream is as solid and trustworthy as Cerave for keeping your skin drenched with moisture all day. It has more ceramides, more coconut oil, more shea butter, more everything someone with #dryskin would need. -@cosrx snail 96 essence is a great mid routine step that gives hydration and is great for calming down irritation and 'troubles'. -@hadalabotokyo gokujyun lotion is full of that #hyaluronicacid and is a cult classic I always keep in stock. Gives true hydration. It's the best sheet mask booster, just slip a little on before donning one. -the one that missed the photo op is the Miguhara hyalucollagen moisturizer. Just emptied but still deserves its place among its sistas. Chok chok (moisture) is the name of the game and I think I'm ready to play... weeeeeeeee! How are you battling dry skin? Have any tips?
A photo posted by kinseng (@kinsengnsq) on

One benefit of having hellaciously dry skin is that it serves as the perfect proving ground for facial moisturizers of all kinds. My reptilian facial skin has the kind of thirst that can often only be found on dating apps (ahem, Tinder? Grindr?) and anonymous location-based social networks (Whisper, Yik Yak, yes I'm talking about you).

Only it thirsts for water and oil.

Dry skin is skin that does not produce enough oil. In your teens and twenties, dry skin can be heaven sent. It can help you dodge the self-esteem damaging effects of acne and it sure is nice to not sparkle like a disco ball like the rest of your peers. However, at my age (winding down year 30 woo hoo!) dry skin is more a menace than a blessing. Dry skin in your thirties and beyond can mean that your once very fine lines and light wrinkles become amplified, and your skin starts to look dull. There are even rumors that dry skin can cause your skin to age faster (I don't believe this one.).

Because of this, I have/had been hoarding creams.

Some were fails: see Banila Co The Black 17 Sleeping Pack, Tony Moly Naturalth Goat Milk Premium Moisture Cream, Dr. Jart Premium Firming Sleeping Mask, Mizon Good Night White Sleeping Pack.

And some ended up working out nicely for me: See Nature Republic Help Me Ceramide Cream,  Shara Shara Water Girls Ice Cream, Miguhara Hyalucollagen Moisturizer Aqua-Ctrl, Mizon Snail Recovery Gel, and the one that got me into Asian beauty products in the first place, the Mizon Snail Wrinkle Care Sleeping Pack.

If you can't tell, I am on a quest to find excellent moisturizers and have stumbled upon 7 dry skin solutions to feature for you today.

Part I. Shop My Stash: Which Moisturizer To Use? And When?

In this part, I will discuss what makes a great cream to me and what I look for when purchasing products to feature in the blog. Also, there are mini-reviews of 7 moisturizers of different types, and details about how they've been absorbed (pun intended) into my routine.  Disclosure: I purchased everything in today's post except for 2 products which will be designated with an asterisk. Also, there are some affiliate links in this post.

Part II. Dry Skin Be Gone: 6 Tricks to Treat Dry, Winter Skin

I've also been collecting dry skin tips from my own personal experience, others' experiences, and tips online to create a list of 6 tips and tricks to handle dry skin. Especially in winter, and especially for those seeking the level of plump, dewy, glowing transcendent skin that I strive for. If your bar is set at "I'm happy as long as my skin isn't flaking", then you may want to skip this section.

A Very Meme Post: K-beauty Routine Order Review + Starter Kit

Monday, November 23, 2015

Disclosure: This is a press sample kindly sent from Memebox.com. I am not compensated for my views. Some affiliate links are used in this post. Clicking on an affiliate link returns a small sum to me at no cost to you as the consumer. Doing so is appreciated as it helps to support this blog. If you are curious about my policy on press samples, affiliate links, and sponsors, please see my disclaimer and policies.

Often K-beauty 'veterans' recommend sampling products before purchasing the full-size, especially for those battling acne and nursing sensitive skin. This way it is less likely that you will end up with full-size products that did not work for you. 'Veterans' also tend to accumulate samples to take when traveling because it's easier to meet airport guidelines with sample packets, as opposed to decanting your routine into little bottles.

For anyone who is still easing their way into a Korean beauty skincare routine, I'll be reviewing the steps of the full Korean skincare routine using this Mini K-beauty Starter Kit from Memebox (with  first impressions to boot) that contains:

6 deluxe samples from brands like Innisfree, Botanic Farm, Goodal, and Benton.
12 regular size samples from brands like CosRX, It's Skin, Skinfood, and Innisfree.

This kit ($10) used to be available at Memebox.com but is unfortunately sold out because it is SUCH an undeniably great deal. This kit will be available on Black Friday for $5!

Mini Cupidrop Haul + Reviews: A-True Body Wash, Ciracle Jeju Mayu Mask, A-True Black Tea Mask

Thursday, November 19, 2015

Hi everyone: Back so soon you say? And with more things from Cupidrop?

Yes because..
a) I asked which items you would like to see reviewed and one of the items in this post was requested.
b) Chronologically, I hauled from them just a little before the Primary Raw made its way to momma.
c) I find them to be among the best curated U.S.-based k-beauty shops.

And also because the weekly Get It Beauty viewing guide is no more! Get It Beauty just aired its last episode of the year last night. :*( I'm sad to have to wait it out for a few months until the next season. Notes from the last episode will not be coming as it was mostly a season recap.

Disclosure: I purchased the items featured in today's post. There are no affiliate links in this post. If you are curious about my policy on press samples, affiliate links, and sponsors, please see my
disclaimer and policies.

I picked up three things that I needed at the time, around late September.

A-True Vanilla Black Tea Day Relief Body Wash

A-True Vanilla Black Tea Day Relief Body Wash review, A-TRUE Real Black Tea True Active Mask review, samples, Ciracle From Jeju Mayu Anti-Aging Facial Sheet Mask review.

INGREDIENTS Camellia Sinensis Leaf Water(130,340mg), Lauryl Glucoside, Disodium Cocoamphodiacetate, Sodium Cocoylalaninate, Glycerin, Olive Oil PEG-7 Esters, Sodium Lauroyl Glutamate, Polyglyceryl-10 Laurate, 1,2-Hexanediol, **Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract(1,200mg), **Vanilla Planifolia Fruit Extract(13mg), Methyl Gluceth-20, Sodium Hyaluronate, Myrciaria Dubia Fruit Extract, Euterpe Oleracea Fruit Extract, Ocimum Basilicum(Basil) Leaf Extract, Melissa Officinalis Leaf Extract, Helichrysum Arenarium Extract, Caprylyl Glycol, Ilex Paraguariensis Leaf Extract, Panthenol, Sodium Bisulfite, Allantoin, Fragrance, Citric Acid, Disodium EDTA (COSDNA ANALYSIS)

I picked this body wash up because I needed some body wash. I saw it, I liked that it contains gentle, non-stripping surfactants, and promised to smell like vanilla and black tea!

At $24 for 250 ml (a bit small compared to drugstore options) the price of this body wash is a bit closer to GOOP territory than I like, but I don't know... I'm an addict, so I succumbed.

I'm happy with the purchase. It's super thin and racks up a really bubbly, lather on my loofah while filling the bathroom with the scent of vanilla. The black tea scent, I don't know about, it eludes my nose. But it leaves my skin soft and smooth, and this might be wishful thinking, but also brighter. Plus, clouds of pH 6.5 vanilla on my body? This is repurchase-able. That is, if I didn't already have my sights set on another illi body wash option.

If you want to shop like you're Gwyneth Paltrow too, you can find this one at...

WHERE TO BUY 250 ml is $24 at Cupidrop.com (currently awaiting restock) | $36 on eBay

Primary Raw Doyou Soy Milk Ferment Essence Skin Review

Wednesday, November 18, 2015

Disclosure: This is a press sample kindly sent from Cupidrop.com. I selected the product, and am not compensated for my views. No affiliate links are used. If you are curious about my policy on press samples, affiliate links, and sponsors, please see my disclaimer and policies.

I'm writing this review with a bellyful of green tea and soy to get myself *in the mood* and it's working!

Usually, when I've used products for over a month, it means I've cleared the honeymoon stage of the relationship, and I'm able to clearly see its flaws, but this one is a looker, with a lot of personality, that ultra-cares for your skin so expect some incoherent gushing and a lot of fangirling in the next few paragraphs.

This is a product I fell in love with at first sight about 1 month ago when it made its way onto the Cupidrop website. It had already secured a spot on my 'essences to try' short list when Cupidrop (bless their hearts) approached me to see if there was anything I wanted to try from their recently launched lines.

GET IT BEAUTY 2015 11/11//2015 'Bathroom Upgrade Project' Show Notes

Monday, November 16, 2015

Hi guys - I hope you've been well. I'm happy to be back from a short break, and to be able to bring you the latest 'Get It Beauty' show notes.

If you're joining me for the first time, Get It Beauty is a popular Korean beauty show that brings experts and celebrities before a studio audience to discuss beauty tips and secrets. They used to subtitle their shows in English, but stopped around late spring/early summer. I started translating episodes a few months back, in case any one was interested in the content.

Get It Beauty 2015 11/11/2015 Bathroom Upgrade Project episode show notes, English subtitles translation, transcription. Lee Hanui, Kim Jungmin, and Sistar Bora's favorite beauty products. Taiwanese hydrogel mask machine maker.

In this post...

  • Part II: Lee Hanui, Kim Jung Min, and Sistar's Bora's Favorite Beauty Products for the Bathroom

The PA rating system measures protection against UVA rays. The highest rating available worldwide is PA++++ in Japan. Current Korean laws only allow sunscreens to be designated as providing up to PA+++ protection. Several sources from the Korean FDA stated on 11/10 that based on testing results to be obtained early next year, the timing of PA++++ designated Korean sunscreens will most probably be around the end of next year.

Gone Off the Grid for a Few + a few sales

Friday, November 13, 2015

Hi all! I hope you've had a great week so far. This is about the time of week where I post a roundup of all of the current sales going on. I'm also a bit late on Get It Beauty show notes for the week. So sorry about that!

I've been a bit under the weather the past week so my productivity has gone down and not to mention that I'm feeling a bit tired out from having been tethered to my computer and phone for the past few weeks. So, I'm going off the grid for a couple of days. :)

But given that this is a pretty big sales week (due to 11/11 Single's Day coming and going) and weekend with many deals to drool over... Case in point, see below... ;)

I wanted to at least highlight a few sales I found most interesting.

Drugstore.com is 18% off on their entire website right now, and Bisou Beauty Bar, a Canada based boutique is having a pop up shop / sale on many new items in their store. I think they just came back from a Seoul shopping/re-stocking trip, so I'd definitely go check their sale out. Rakuten has discounted shipping right now as well so if you are in need of a sunscreen restock, I'd head over there. Leaders Cosmetics USA just relaunched their purdy new site and is running a 50% off sale to celebrate. KoreaDepart and TesterKorea have "Black Friday"-ish discounts going on. YesStyle is 60% off select K-beauty products, and lastly, Forever 21 has a 20% off Friends and Family sale with code Friends. They carry Holika Holika and Peripera. How could I forget! It's also the beginning of the 20% off sale at Sephora for those who have VIB status (code VIB20).

Happy shopping! Sorry I didn't deliver much Tempt-asian this week. Have a great weekend!

#WayBackWednesday: 2 LONG Overdue Reviews

Wednesday, November 11, 2015

Today I'm playing a little catch-up with some reviews of two products I purchased a looooong, long time ago.... They're not ones that I am planning to repurchase at the moment so I'm going to make it snappy.

In this post...

Disclosure: I purchased the both of the items featured in this post. Some affiliate links are used. Purchasing through an affiliate link is greatly appreciated and helps me support this blog. K-beauty at Sephora: 1 Hit & 1 Miss (VIB Sale Prep)

Sunday, November 8, 2015

Just like clockwork, Sephora's biannual beauty sale is upon us again. This year's November VIB Rouge and VIB sale is here! This means that all VIB Rouge and VIB members will be able to pick up beauty essentials and gifts for 20% off. The event has already begun for VIB Rouge members (Nov. 6 onwards) and VIB members will be able to access the sale from Nov. 13 - 16. This year's codes are ROUGE20 if you are a VIB Rouge member, or VIB20 if you are a VIB member.

The hallowed aisles of Sephora have recently been increasingly colonized by skincare offerings from South Korea. While Sephora's Korean beauty product stock is not the most extensive out there, they have curated far more Korean cosmetics than I would have ever dared to dream of even as recently as 5 years ago.

Sephora VIB Sale November 2015 Korean beauty skincare picks, Erborian Pate Au Ginseng Black Concentrated Mask review, Erborian Pate Au Ginseng Masque Noir Condense Effet Tenseur Review, Dr. Jart Premium Firming Sleeping Mask review.
This image made the South Korean news, many times over.

Today I have 2 reviews of Korean skincare products that may help you craft or let's be honest, probably more like whittle down your already extensive VIB shopping list.

There is one hit, and one miss.

Read on to find out why.

November Week 1 K-beauty Skincare Launches

Saturday, November 7, 2015

These are the new skincare releases for the week. Most are freshly announced or only sold on the official Korean site for now, but Tester Korea may carry them very shortly.

Hera announces Retinol Wrinkle Corrector (40 ml / 85000 KRW)

On 11/3, Hera announced its plans to release a Retinol Wrinkle Corrector. This product features Hera's proprietary retino-force complex (TM) in conjunction with rye extract and hyaluronic acid. What's so special about this release? Korean skincare isn't big on retinol, so finding a good one is kind of tough. Stay tuned for updates. Once released this product will be accessible by using a shipping service, like Avecko.com

October Favorites / I Love Fall TAG

Tuesday, November 3, 2015

I hope you had an amazing October. I saw this 'I love Fall" tag on Melissa from Kiss & Makeups's blog last week and thought it would be a fun way to get the customary monthly favorites out the door and onto the internet.

What is your favorite lip product for Fall?

It's this Son & Park Lip Crayon in Flash Red. I always lean towards bright colors with matte finishes whatever the season. This tomato red I love for any time of the year, not just Fall.

Son and Park Lip Crayon Flash Red review swatch, Milani Nail Lacquer in 28A Just Grayt review swatch, It's Skin Cookie and Hand Cream in Mint review ingredients, Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Poured in Opal review swatch, Sheet mask reviews.

It also lasts and lasts and lasts. And just try and wipe it off by eating or drinking. It won't take the hint. These are totally transfer-resistant.

I hope you've been having a great weekend.
