Brush Pen Eyeliner Showdown: Creer Beaute vs. Clio Kill Brown

Wednesday, April 6, 2016

There's just something about eyeliners I really like, like the fact that they give the eyes depth and definition with just a flick of the wrist. These days I'm all about the ease of using brush / pen tip eyeliners. They're high quality, high performance, and there's no real learning curve like there is with traditional liquid liners.

Clio is a Korean makeup brand best known for their eyeliners and base products. The Kill Black/Brown felt tip Pen Liners are the bestsellers in years past, but they as they recently added brush liners to the mix, I decided to give it a shot. The Kill Brown brush liner also comes with a bonus Salon de Cara mascara sample.

Creer Beaute Sailor Moon Miracle Romance Liquid Eyeliner

Creer Beaute is a Japanese beauty brand owned by anime and gaming company Bandai hence the Sailor Moon design on the packaging. I picked it up because Sailor Moon, and pink packaging! JK... at the time I needed a new liner and it was cute. I'm happy to report that it ended up being a nice quality eyeliner. There are also other fancy schmancy versions of this eyeliner that come with a wand tip like so that many a Sailor Moon fan will fangirl over.

Side-by-Side Comparison

Clio Kill Brown Waterproof EyelinerCreer Beaute Sailor Moon Miracle Romance Liquid Eyeliner
packaging
It's a brush tip eyeliner that comes in sleek brown packaging. The tip is thin and stiff to hypothetically make for precise lines...
packaging
Another brush tip eyeliner but this time in pink (!) plastic packaging. The liner tip is a little longer than the Clio, soft and flexible yet able to deliver precise lines... After having used this almost daily for the past few months, the tip has only frayed a tiny bit. Very surprising.
pigmentation
The liner ink itself is a medium brown instead of a usual dark brown which is nice but the level of pigmentation is pretty terrible. Even after having shook the liner before each use, the lack of pigment makes it difficult to apply precisely.
pigmentation
The Creer Beaute ink is dark brown and heavily pigmented.

application
As aforementioned, because it takes a few strokes to get a high enough level of pigment, it's tough to get a thin line.

application
It applies precisely and evenly without skipping from the first swipe.
performance
I was disappointed as the wear time is about 2 hours... It's not smudge proof, and fades extremely quickly if not used over primer or set with powder.

performance
While it's not entirely smudgeproof, the liner does last all day without me having to take any extra precautions. It also washes away easily with oil cleanser. It's a TKO!
