The following review is on a cleansing oil that contains mineral oil, so if that's a dealbreaker for you I suggest you skip this post. I don't mind myself some mineral oil in cleansing oil form as I've used products like the Banila Co Clean It Zero's without getting any breakouts and found that products with mineral oil are often really darn effective.
With that today I want to talk about the Daycell Esthenique Dark Sugar Cleansing Oil. The draw of this product for me was a very positive and glowing review I came across on one of the many Korean beauty forums I frequent - the specific one I think was the one called Yeouya. After seeing the review I did a quick ingredients search on Hwahae and found that the few people who reviewed it on the app also had great experiences with it as well.
INGREDIENTS Mineral Oil, Cyclopentasiloxane, Cyclohexasiloxane, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Isopropyl Myristate, PEG-12 Diisostearate, Caprylyl Methicone, PEG-8 Diisostearate, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Alcohol, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Fragrance, Black Strap Powder, Butylparaben, Tocopheryl Acetate, BHT
This oil is mineral oil-based and contains grapeseed oil which is high in antioxidants, olive oil (acne warning) and black strap powder (molasses) which is another word for brown sugar.
It claims to be useful for 'peeling' which I assume just means exfoliating due to the black strap powder, pore care, and blackhead removal, the latter two claims which I highly doubt.
The Isopropyl Myristate has the potential to be a problem for some, according to CosDNA so please be cautious of that.
THE PACKAGING was also one of the major draws for me, I love the black gothic looking box with the elaborate red and gold design. The bottle is a see-through light brown/tan color with the same logo decal and a white plastic pump that squirts out product evenly and in small amounts. There's also a white plastic pump guard piece that comes with so you don't accidentally dispense the stuff without meaning to.
THE PRODUCT itself is actually remarkable. A lot of times I find cleansing oils to be unremarkable or notable in a bad way (off-putting scent, too thick, emulsifies poorly, rinsing takes too long), but the Daycell Esthetique is probably the thinnest oil I've used that has actually been effective at melting off all of my makeup, including eye makeup. So for effectiveness it gets a big fat gold star from me. But, for all Daycell goes on about the exfoliating benefits of the black strap powder, I really don't detect any graininess in the oil and it doesn't seem to actually do much other than cleanse makeup really fluffing well and completely. The oil is also scented like sweet brown bread when first dispensed and I live for that first moment. But for some reason, after that first sweet hit to the nose, the scent degrades into a kind of synthetic funky after-scent which to me was tolerable, but not preferable. All in all, not a bad find, but I probably won't re-order it. This suits those who really like thin cleansing oils and sweet scents. Again, I just want to reiterate that it didn't really do anything for blackheads or pores like the company claims it does.
