Months ago Cupidrop was kind enough to send me this Tosowoong The Special Edition Cocoon MONSTER Pack. It's been sitting in the review queue since Halloween. It's kind of a weird and wacky product that has a lot of mixed reviews on the web so I thought I'd pipe in with an opinion for those with dry, aging skin.
It's a wash-off mask that tightens and constricts pores as it dries down into a tight, spider cobwebby corset-like consistency around your face. It looks really creepy after it's dried down. Once washed off, it's supposed to reveal tighter pores, and smooth, exfoliated skin.
According to Cupidrop/Tosowoong it gives intense pore care in 15 minutes, and contains syn-ake peptides and EGF (Epidermal Growth Factors) to firm the skin, silkworm cocoon protein and galactomyces to hydrate and nourish, volcanic ash gently exfoliates while bifida enhances the skin [moisture] barrier. They say that you can get rid of blackheads and whiteheads, tighten enlarged pores, firm and lift sagging skin all at once with this multi-functional pack.
We'll check these claims out.
It comes packaged in a black and red plastic tube. There's a box too that has the ingredients (in Korean only) printed on it. There are instructions in Korean too. The tube is the kind that dispenses out of the base which just makes the mask so easy to use, it's just like those new and improved ketchup bottles from the grocery store, and not the annoying glass bottles you get at a diner. You get 100 ml (3.52 oz) of product and it expires in 12 months. The expiration date is stamped on the bottom of the box.

You guessed it, Monster... badumchik.
During testing, I found that it held up to its claims for the most part. My pores visibly looked a lot smaller, they were clear of all gunk - from dirt, to sebum, sebaceous filaments and blackheads. (Unfortunately I wasn't able to test the mask on whiteheads). And my skin always looked and felt softened, smoother, and lightly hydrated. In terms of lifting and wrinkle care, I can't say that I agree with Tosowoong outright. Like I said before, the mask only stays on the skin for 15 minutes tops (a very uncomfy, squirmy 15 minutes) so it is unlikely that you will see any wrinkle tightening or lifting of sagging skin from using this mask. At least I didn't. On my dry skin, I only needed to use this mask once a week to keep my pores clear. I didn't experience any irritation, in fact, the mask seemed to calm redness and even out my skin, but please be aware that others have not had the same smooth sailing experience that I have had.

The product is actually really counterintuitive. The mask pack is a yellow-orange thick syrupy type mask. It's got a fruity scent to it, a bit strong and synthetic but not overly offensive. The mask smells like apple with honey with something else, either an apricot or papaya, but if they were a bit off. As always I'm not that great identifying scents so please take my description with a grain of salt.

The Sodium Polystyrene Sulfonate is a type of gentle skin-cleansing surfactant, while the Hydroxypropyl Starch Phosphate is a bulking agent. It gives the MONSTER Pack all of its muscle-y might (the heft of the pack). Then there are some great moisturizing, brightening antioxidants in the form of Porulaca Oleracea, Galactomyces (sake yeast ferment), Bifida (more bacteria, the kind found in our gut actually), and anti-acne and anti-inflammatory Centella Asiatica. Then follow the amino acids present in our skin and meant to strengthen our skin barrier, the hydrating yeast-derived glutamic acid, and the powerful antioxidant silkworm cocoon extract. The volcanic ash is meant to exfoliate the skin and the following fruit and botanical extracts hydrate the skin while protecting and nourishing it. Just a little warning, as the citrus extracts are potentially photosensitizing. The long-name ingredient "Dipeptide Diaminobutyroyl Benzylamide Diacetate" is the syn-ake, or snake venom which is a source of anti-aging peptides. The syn-ake, copper, and EGF peptides are meant to stimulate collagen synthesis and smooth out fine lines and wrinkles (though with a wash-off mask that only stays on the skin for 15 minutes at a time, I wouldn't get my hopes up too high).
Who It's For
According to Tosowoong/Cupidrop it's for all skin types. I would say it's best for those with slightly dry to normal to oily skin. Non-sensitive skin types as some people have been reacting to the mask - with rashes etc. For anyone who doesn't object to strong fragrances.
To Use
Take a quarter-size dollop of the product and apply it all over the face, trying to get everything in an even layer. The more product you use, the more time it will take for the mask to tighten and give you the monster-ry photo-op look you've been waiting for. Let the pack dry until it gets tight, but not uncomfortably so (10-15 minutes), and wash off with lukewarm water for ease of removal. Use 2-3 times a week, or however often you need to tighten pores and remove blackheads.
You guessed it, Monster... badumchik.
Each time I use this mask I come away with the same reactions.
P.U. what's this scent? Oohlala, the pack feels so nice going on the skin! (During drydown) Much ow, this is terrible, why did I subject myself to this again? (After frantically washing off the uncomfy and taking a gander at my skin) Dizzang Daniel!
