NSQ's resident bedroom MUA reporting, this time with a plug for a retro color palette that I've been digging lately - pairing peach and navy together in a few different ways. This post is totally inspired by the new Holika Holika Jewel-Light Blusher in Bitter Peach that may have arrived in my physical inbox a few days ago from Prettyandcute.com. I've included a mini-review of the product below.

+ The color is a soft orangey peach in the pan and swatches with a soft pink cast. It's beautiful on lighter skin tones and can really brighten your complexion.

o The first thing that popped into my head when I saw it was that it was extremely small. You can see in the first picture that it is only slightly bigger than my 3CE eyeshadow pan, and it's not as deep. So aside from dubbing it "James and the Tiny Peach", I decided to calculate the per ounce price and compare it to other blushes on the market. You get 0.17 oz. of product for $4 (at etailer roserosewholesale and roseroseshop) to $10 (@prettyandcute) and the per ounce cost was still significantly less than a MAC or NARS blush ($22 or $34 dollars for 0.21 oz of product, respectively). So though it may not look like it, it still is a relatively affordable choice.

- This color won't show up on you if you are deeper than about an NC20/25.
Overall: I recommend this product for fair-skinned ladies. It is ~$3.50 at roseroseshop if you don't mind the extended shipping lead time, or for $10.00 at prettyandcute for those with a more urgent need.

So back to the original discussion...
Though this blush is flattering to wear with many colors as it is quite neutral, I was drawn to the navy blue pairing because you can do so many things with it. You can evoke a nautical sentiment by keeping the look subtle with navy eyeliner on just the lashline. You can go retro and do a dramatic 70's-like eye with wash of navy on the lid and Twiggy-like falsies, nuded out with the peach on both the cheeks and lips. You can go 2015, and pop that navy on the lower lashline/waterline, which is the look I've gone for today.

Sephora Collection Retractable Waterproof Eyeliner in 19 Shimmer Navy - a vibrant shimmery navy pencil eyeliner that does not smudge or budge unless you vigorously rub your eyes. (Though easily removed with coconut oil or other eye makeup remover...). It's not a true navy as it is on the light side. It's somewhere between a cobalt and a navy, a truly unique shade. It spreads easily if you want to use it as a cream shadow.

elf Brow Kit in Medium - I use the brow powder for many different purposes. I use it for the brows, sometimes as a contour, and today I use it as an eyeshadow.
