Baby Your Face w/ Atopita Moisture UV Cream 50, an Alcohol-Free Physical Sunscreen

Hi everyone, today I wanted to share with you a gentle, moisturizing sunscreen that suits normal to dry skin. It is the Atopita Moisture UV Cream 50, rated SPF 50 and PA++++. Quick review: PA measures effectiveness against UVA (wrinkle-causing) rays and SPF rates effectiveness against UVB (cancer-causing rays). PA++++ is the highest rating.

So, what makes this sunscreen gentle? Well, it's literally formulated for babies. I almost typed "from babies" whew that would be all sorts of wrong. It's free of alcohol (HALLELUJAH, this is heaven sent for my dry skin), parabens, fragrance, dyes, and chemical UV filters.  The only active ingredients are Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide. Additionally the formula is water-resistant and easily removable with soap.

I'm kind of disappointed because this post was originally supposed to be a sort of sober (alcohol-free) sunscreen smackdown between this one and the Shigaisen Yohou UV Cream 4+ (a Ratzilla Cosme favorite). Unfortunately, my order was cancelled by the vendor (Rakuten Sante Labo) 2.5 weeks after I placed it so there will be no battle of the sunscreens to witness today. There is this recent review by AsianSkincareBlog, but I won't be piping in on the Shigaisen myself. To be honest though, I'm very satisfied with the Atopita. Read on to find out why!

First Impressions

This is what 20g's looks like.

One of my only gripes with this sunscreen is that it is SO puny. 1 tube is only 20 grams of product! For scale, I photographed it next to my Mentholatum sunblock and a TRAVEL SIZE TOOTHPASTE. I'm going back for more, but trust me I'll be ordering multiples. 1 tube costs roughly $6.19 without shipping.



The texture is also less of a milk and more viscous like a lotion. In the above photo, you'll see how it compares to the Mentholatum sunscreen I reviewed last. (tl;dr I like the Atopita better).


Performance



It's very moisturizing and spreads easily.

There is an initial white cast which goes away upon rubbing the sunscreen into the skin (on my light NC20 skin at least). It takes about 15-20 seconds before you look human again. After 30 seconds, you will look normal, but with dewy skin. It feels weightless after dry-down.

The finish is dewy (though not sticky). This may not suit people with oily skin or those who prefer matte finishes.

If you want to wear liquid makeup with this sunscreen you'll want to wait a few minutes. I found that if you put foundation or alphabet creams on too soon afterwards, it can look a bit like oil on water. If you wear powder or cushion makeup, you're good to put it on sooner than that, maybe 1-2 minutes after application.

I rate this a BUY for people with dry-normal skin. It also should suit sensitive skin types. I would SKIP if you have oily skin or if you only give yourself 5-10 minutes to get ready in the morning and hate waiting for products to dry down. I've already got my next couple of bottles in my cart. And with Atopita by my side, I'm not mad at that Shigaisen vendor for cancelling my order AT ALL.
