Thai scientists have discovered two new species of psychedelic-yellow tree snails whose free radical antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties will inspire many new skin care developments to come.
Asian Countries Have Nordic Berry Fever, And Finland Can't Keep Up by Rae Ellen Bichell for NPR
Over the last decade, Japanese, Chinese and South Koreans have been discovering these berries, particularly in health and beauty products. ... there's actual science showing that Finnish and Swedish bilberries are packed with more vitamins and antioxidants than North American blueberries. Lingonberries can help prevent urinary tract infections. Cloudberries, the most rare and expensive of the three, may boost intestinal flora and help prevent colon cancer. And, says Rainer Peltola, a senior research scientist at the Finnish Natural Resources Institute, "a berry-rich diet has been connected with a lower risk of cardiovascular disease, obesity and type 2 diabetes."
Banned Bisphenol A and Acetone Nitrile now detectable
New tests have been developed to detect Korean FDA-banned ingredients bisphenol A and acetone nitrile. 65 substances have been banned in Korean cosmetics since the ingredient guidelines were enacted in 2009, for more information on KFDA-banned ingredients go to www.mfds.go.kr
China's Most Wanted Korean Sheet Masks Are...
Year over year mask sales in China are due to grow rapidly. Mask sales alone are expected to surpass 3.75 billion Yuan in 2015. Brands from South Korea make up 4 of the 5 bestselling masks on the Chinese market. The bestselling brand is domestic. The next most popular brands are Mediheal Clinic, Leaders Clinic, Innisfree, and SNP.
Amore Pacific cracks the Forbes Most Innovative Companies List
Korea's largest household/personal care conglomerate Amore Pacific was announced as one of Forbes's most innovative companies. Amore Pacific is the world's 14th-largest cosmetics manufacturer with brands like Hera, IOPE, Laneige, and Etude House in its fold. It was the first to introduce cushion technology to the world and its chairman Suh Kyung Bae is the second-richest man in South Korea.
Dry Biocellulose Technology: OEM YouCel and Brand ChaBien Patent Pending
A 3 micrometer "dry biocellulose" technology has been developed to combat existing issues with biocellulose, such as degrading under contact with essences, microbial growth, and high levels of preservatives. The technology is expected to allow for handling the material without a clean room environment, and storing the material at room temperatures.
Are You a Fan of Sustainable, Slow Fashion? Meet Slow Cosmetics
There's a new worldwide trend towards using sustainable and environmentally friendly cosmetics development practices called "slow cosmetics". LG H&H-owned Davi Cosmetics is one brand taking this approach with its Miracle Rose line of products (6 in all) and Age Defy Burgundy Tea Serum. The Miracle Rose line features rose petals harvested by hand in the south of France, after which, it takes 432 hours to extract the oils using an enfleurage process. The Age Defy Burgundy Tea Serum features burgundy tea leaves harvested 1600 meters above sea level and takes 3650 days to make. *Edit, clarification. No one farms tea in Burgundy, France, and it's not 1600 meters above sea level. Sorry!
