Etude House Precious Mineral Any Cushion Pearl Aura SPF 50+/PA+++

My Shade: Natural Pearl Aura

My MAC Shade: NC15, my skin leans warm/yellow-toned but only slightly

This is a cushion compact that contains a foundation soaked sponge with a twist. The Pearl Aura cushion from Etude House contains little deposits of Pearl Brightener which blends and mixes into the foundation product when applied to give a pearly, luminescent finish. While listed as a full coverage product, this cushion gives about medium coverage.

For those new to cushion products, they deposit a really thin layer of product to give you natural looking coverage. The reason why cushion products give such a flawless finish is because the foundation is contained in a sponge, which makes it so the liquid does not separate.

Alpacasso stickers not included. ;)

For about $20, this product comes packaged in a plastic compact that has a pearlized finish and the name of the product embossed on the front. I thought I would dislike having a plastic container as I am used to metal ones, but there is an upside to the plastic: your finger prints will not smudge onto the case.

The size and weight of the container is very similar to the IOPE compact, so it is extremely portable. It does not come with a refill.

According to the back of the compact, this product expires in 12 months after opening. The manufacturing date is April 18, 2015. Just a quick FYI - most Korean products have the manufacturing date printed on the package. If the date is in the past, don't freak out :)

This product contains many silicones (ingredients that end in -siloxane, -cone) which lends to the elegant thinness of the formula, high blendability, and the shiny finish.

This cushion provides broad spectrum UVA1, UVA2, UVB coverage due to the stable filters Zinc Oxide, Titanium Dioxide, and Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate.

This cushion contains skin brightening and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation fighting Niacinamide, hydrating Glycerin and Sodium Hyaluronate, and anti-aging Adenosine.

The pearl-based ingredients are also responsible for the shiny finish.
There are a few potential 'low danger' triggers like the Niacinamide, Butylene Glycol, Stearic Acid (registers a bit higher on the scale), Alcohol, the chemical UV filter, and the silicones.
This product contains Fragrance, Disodium EDTA, Aluminum Hydroxide, and Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate.

The product contains a mirror, and a rubycell anti-bacterial puff applicator. There is a plastic separator between the applicator and the foundation.

Sorry about the photo, I'm not sure what happened to it, but it got censored like it was wearing a string bikini on the Bachelor. >.<

When opening for the first time, the foundation-soaked sponge will be sealed off.

This cushion is different from other cushions as it contains 6 'pearl brightener' zones. Each zone is soaked with pearl highlighter, and not the foundation itself.

Pictured above is the first swipe. We'll see soon enough if the pearl highlighter blends in well with the foundation or if I get awkward little polka dots on my face.

The pearl brightener has a white, pearly highlighter finish on the left. The foundation fluid swatches at between an NC15 and an NC20.

This is a makeup base product, so it will go on after your morning skincare routine, which I hope includes a sunscreen ;p. Press the applicator puff into the sponge, and lightly pat the product (with a 'tok tok tok' motion) onto the face. Swiping and rubbing motions may cause the product to not play well with the layers underneath, and the additional friction is not good for aging.

This product is not particularly moisturizing nor is it mattifying. I believe it to perform best for those with slightly dry to normal to slightly oily skin.
It contains any personal acne triggers or irritants. Please patch test all products.

wet hair, not 3rd day hair. ^^

In the before and after photo above...

BEFORE I've prepped with my morning skincare and 'primed' my face with two different types of sunscreen. On the left hand side is a physical sunscreen with moisturizing properties. I use these sunscreens as hydrating pore-filling primers. On the right hand side, I've used a watery gel sunscreen that dries down matte. I use these sunscreens as a mattifying primer from time to time.

AFTER In the after photo, I've applied the cushion. You can see that it gives a shiny, pearlescent glow to the skin. When applied on top of the physical sunscreen, it gives more shine, while when applied over top of the matte gel sunscreen, it blends into the skin more seamlessly.

HELLO. This is what the cushion looks like up close. I haven't used any concealer in these photos. The finish of the cushion to me is acceptable for the price. When viewing it in person, I think it does look a bit like you are wearing makeup, so it doesn't give the flawless natural coverage of the Sulwhasoo or Amore Pacific cushions I've had in the past. But to be honest, I don't think one purchases this cushion for flawless natural coverage. You get it to get your face strobed with one product, and in one step.

This product is extremely unique in its finish. It's not a mattifying cushion, and it's not a dewy cushion. It's a SHINY cushion.

The shade match of this product was extremely accurate for an NC15 and the Pearl Brightener/Highlighter blended in seamlessly with the foundation product. The pearly coverage was supremely uniform over the entire face.

The cushion is however less forgiving than other cushions and can look like you have makeup on. It can also accentuate dry patches on the skin and textural issues like raised or pitted scars. It does perform well on pores and fine lines that aren't too large. The good thing though is that it is easy to find ways to hack it to make it work for you. For example, my hack is to use it over the top of an extremely dewy, almost glossy sunscreen.

I really enjoyed the amount of coverage it gave as I'm not big on full coverage or light coverage products. It is just enough to even out my skin and cover my dark circles some. (I'm not big on concealer, I've earned these dark circles!)

I found I had to touch up every 4+ hours here and there, but my face wasn't a disaster zone or anything.

I believe the product is worth the price as it performs quite well. I do have to note that it is not as much of a value as you might think though since it does not come with the customary refill. So really to compare this to other cushion products in the market, you have to compare it to $40 cushions. With that said, I do think it held its own against the IOPEs of the world, simply because of how unique the finish is.

1 2 3 4 5 for its unique finish, if you are looking for a pearly glow, this does a good job.
1 2 3 3.5 4 5 for me personally, as I prefer a dewy cushion as opposed to a glowy one.
