Cherry Blossom Makeup Look & Aritaum Product Reviews

Monday, May 23, 2016

One look I've been seeing trending on Korean beauty Youtube channels has been this bright pink and cherry red look, often dubbed the "Cherry Blossom" makeup look/tutorial. The look brings the focus onto the cheek and lips as it features heavy handed pink blush and a glossy red (often gradient) lip. I recently noticed that two of the makeup products I purchased not long ago are actually great building blocks for this particular look, so I thought I'd give them a quick review, along with a FOTD of what the cherry blossom look I'm referring to above looks like.

The two products I picked up (pictured below) are the...

Aritaum Water Sliding Tint in 06 Wild Strawberry

Aritaum Sugarball Velvet Blusher in 04 Peach Crush

This is a beautiful soft, buildable peach/pink blush in a powder formula.

It comes packaged in a tiny round compact with a mirror, and a soft, thin (natural hair?) blush brush. There's a clear plastic separator that serves to hold the brush and keep the product from getting onto the mirror. The brush itself is way too soft to pick up enough product, so I stick to my Estee Lauder cheek brush to apply this product.

This blush is really gorgeous. I love how it's not overly pigmented to the point where you have to be careful not to overdo it, but in no way is it chalky, which is the descriptor I'd give to many a Korean blusher. It's a gorgeous color that pulls peachier in natural light and more pink in artificial lighting and dimmer settings; it swatches just a tad bit lighter than it looks in the pan. There are also extremely fine subtle flecks of gold microglitter that give the product the most perfect satin finish. This is what I wish NARS Orgasm, the elf dupe, and NYX Foreplay actually looked like. Furthermore, it pairs well with a large variety of eyeshadow looks as well as lip colors.

The one drawback, this color may not be pigmented enough to show up on darker skin tones than about a MAC NC25. Other than that, I definitely rate this a great blush at a great price.

Aritaum Water Sliding Tint in 06 Wild Strawberry

This is a brightly pigmented, highly moisturizing lip tint in a 'sliding' balm form.

The Water Sliding Tints come in a chapstick/balm packaging. The only difference between this product and any other chapstick-like lip product is that it cannot be swiveled up and down all the way. In fact, it comes with a warning label that instructs to only swivel up just a few clicks (up to about 1mm) of product, as the product cannot be retracted all the way back down again. So if you don't want to have to apply the entire product in one go, make sure you only dispense a few clicks or swivels of product. Other than that, I like how the color of the packaging matches the color that is inside, as it's super convenient when throwing together a makeup look in the morning.

I'm also a fan of this product by Aritaum. It's a moisturizing glossy balm tint in a very season-appropriate cherry red color. Cherry, wild strawberry, apple any other gorgeous and yummy sounding red color. It applies the pigment really smoothly and evenly on the lips and it's not so melty that it is difficult to smudge out into a gradient lip. It's definitely not the longest wearing of products but that is to be expected of a lip balm type product. As you can see, it swatches almost exactly the same as in the packaging in that vibrant red shade, and after about 1-2 hours of wear, it settles down into a lighter pinky red stain. The product is fragranced, however, it is so light that I cannot tell what it's supposed to smell like. I'm also thinking that this could be a great cheek stain as well. Anyways, I think this product is worth a try if you're looking for something low maintenance like a glossy balm.
