[Memebox] Nooni Advanced Repair Therapy Cream Review

Wednesday, May 18, 2016

Hi all, it's been a while since my last full-size skincare product review. I like to rotate products into my skincare routine every 2 - 4 weeks to make sure that I can pinpoint whether or not a particular product is giving me great results, hence the delay. But today I'll be reviewing the nooni Advanced Repair Therapy Super Revitalizing Cream sent to me by the lovely Memebox team.

Packaging

The cream comes housed in this delightfully clinical white and silver box. The ingredients of the cream are written on the back of the box in Korean.  One of my k-beauty pro-tips is to keep the box that the products come in to a) make products easier to stack when storing them and b) to have a place to tuck spatulas into when necessary.

The jar is made of clear plastic with the product name written in silver lettering. It houses 50 ml of product. The cap is a sturdy, secure white rubberized plastic and when you open the jar, there is an inner lid for sanitation purposes. The expiration date is written on the bottom of the jar. Unfortunately a spatula is not included.

Product Overview

It's a ceramide cream that contains centella asiatica and other wound-healing ingredients to really seal and protect the skin while giving it some soothing moisture. Just in case you're not familiar with ceramides, they are naturally occuring compounds in the skin, they're lipids and they are present in our epidermal skin cells. Centella asiatica is an acne-fighting, antibacterial and wound care powerhouse ingredient that is a must-add to any acne-prone skincare fiend's routine.

The product itself is a thick gel cream that feels very hefty and protective, almost like Vaseline, but it dries down to a super soft and matte finish. Surprisingly, this cream has a light citrus scent - it's not overpowering though and dissipates when dry.

Ingredients

Water, Butylene Glycol, Dipropylene Glycol, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Cetearyl Alcohol, Dimethicone, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Cyclopentasiloxane, Ethyl Hexanediol, Sea Water, Cyclohexasiloxane, tritated, Madecassic Acid, Asiatic Acid, Tromethamine, Carbomer, Xanthan Gum, Glyceryl Caprylate, Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Allantoin, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Peel Oil, Ocimum Basilicum (Basil) Oil, Geranium Maculatum Oil, Disodium EDTA, Ethylhexylglycerin, Yellow 5 (CI 19140), Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Oil, Ceramide 3, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Panthenol [CosDNA]

There's nothing that completely wows me in this particular cream but I will call out that the fatty alcohols and silicones are great workhorse emollients that moisturize the skin well. The madecassic acid and asiatic acid are components present in the aforementioned Centella Asiatica plant that helps with healing the skin both during and after breakouts.

The Ceramide 3 is present way down the ingredients list, but don't be alarmed, this is where they are usually included, in small amounts. What is of more concern is that cholesterol and other fatty acids are not present in the cream as I've read around the internet that all three must be present in a specific ratio to help the skin; individually, these ingredients may hinder the moisture barrier rather than aid in its repair. So the ingredients list is quite solid, but the cream may not deliver on its intended purpose due to the reason mentioned above.

I've been using this cream every night for a few weeks now and I feel that this makes for a great last step in an evening skincare routine for those with normal to dry skin. It may be too occlusive and thick for those with oily skin. It's definitely not suitable for daytime use as the silicones in the product would potentially pill when applied underneath sunscreen or makeup.

I didn't find this cream to be as moisturizing as I had hoped it to be, but my skin did feel a bit more nourished and taut - as in, it was pretty great in amping up the elasticity of my skin. One advantage of using this product instead of a more emollient cream or sleeping pack is that the product dries down quickly and completely so you'll never end up with well moisturized pillowcases.

So all in all do I recommend this product? Yes and no. It depends on your skincare preferences. If you're looking for a heavy cream that dries down quickly and helps to keep skin both moisturized and taut, then yes this is a great cream for you.

Available at Memebox for $37 (50ml)*
