Nooni Spring Water Seed Essence Toner, an Ideal Before Noon Boost of Hydration

Sunday, May 29, 2016

The Spring Water Seed Essence Toner by Memebox's house brand nooni, is one of three products sent me for review from this line. I've been using this toner for about a month now, and have finally formulated an opinion about it so here goes nothing. Click to read the two other nooni reviews about the cleansing water here and ceramide cream here. :-)

I selected this product based on the ingredients list which boast carbonated water, olive oil, and green tea extract which I hoped with lead to a very moisturizing and oxidation and UV damage-preventing product. Second, this product is gargantuan, clocking in at 350ml, a full 200 ml more than most other toners and essences I've encountered in the Kbeauty world. (Bigger doesn't always mean better, but it surely is mildly satisfying to know that the product is such a great deal). Lastly, I was intrigued by the inclusion of quinoa extract in the ingredients list, something not stressed in their marketing message for the product.

So let's get right into it.

The main claims around this product is that it's a toner for all skin types that provides long-lasting relief to dry skin, deeply moisturizes and energizes your skin, with its gentle and non-drying formula.

INGREDIENTS Water, Propanediol, Glycerin, Carbonated Water, PEG-8, Olive Oil, Quinoa Seed Extract, Green Tea Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, BIS-PEG-18 Methyl Ethyl Dimethyl Silane, Carbomer, Tromethamine, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Disodium EDTA, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Fragrance [COSDNA]

This product contains olive oil which is an emollient, great for adding moisture to the skin (so long as your skin isn't reactive to the stuff), quinoa, which is often hailed as a superfood for the amount of antioxidants it contains, green tea, a source of EGCG and polyphenols which are potent antioxidants, useful for helping skin recover from sun exposure and also playing a role in preventing sun damage (doesn't get you off the hook from wearing sunscreen though), and sodium hyaluronate, which is the salt form of hyaluronic acid, a stellar hydrator that binds water into the outer layers of the skin.

If you do try this product out please remember to patch test, and discontinue use if any signs of irritation appear - itching, redness, and/or swelling.

All of the abovementioned ingredients combine to make for a thick, watery toner that could easily be described as an essence, with little watery beads dispersed throughout. It is quite heavily scented with a fruity floral fragrance which is not offensive to my nose. The scent persists for quite a while, in case you are sensitive.

The product comes housed in a large, green plastic bottle with a silver twist-off cap. When new, it comes with an inner white stopper. As per usual, the expiration date is written on the bottom of the bottle. The product expires in 12 months and I have a sneaking suspicion that this bottle might actually last me an entire year! I've made a mental note to take it out of my stash a year from now.

Performance-wise, this product didn't make any huge claims so if I'm evaluating it on the merits emphasized by the Memebox nooni team, I'd say that it met or exceeded my expectations as it is truly quite hydrating and moisturizing. When using this product in the morning, I find that I can forego a heavy cream and end my routine with a light lotion or emulsion and be fine throughout the day. (Of course topping off with a sunscreen). It's just a simple hydrating toner, nothing more, nothing less with the potential to really help fight sun damage. And I like.

You can find this product at Memebox on sale now for $18 here* (reg. price $22).

Have you tried any of the nooni products, if so, what are your thoughts?

P.S. I'm finally off my #missionempties and no buy and looking for some recommendations on a serum or ampoule for dry, aging skin. If you have any suggestions, please leave them in the comments below!
