Clio Salon de Cara Back Comb Waterproof Fiber Lash Mascara Review

Wednesday, May 4, 2016

There are many entrants in the Asian beauty 'long name' mascara world. I recently did an update on the Isehan Kiss Me Heroine Make Long and Curl Mascara, and I'm back again today with another review dedicated to the lashes. The Clio Salon de Cara Back Comb Waterproof Mascara Long x Curl Fix is a fiber lash mascara from one of the most popular Korean makeup brands, Clio Professional. I received a deluxe sample of this mascara as a gift with purchase and I wanted to call it out because it's definitely exceeded my expectations. AKA I had none, and now I turn to this mascara pretty often. I prooobably should have done a comparison review between this and the Kiss Me Heroine Make Long and Curl  (shall henceforth be known as KMHMLC for the rest of this post) but that didn't happen and so, the Clio will get its very own, short review today. =-)

I like using this mascara when I want a very black, and voluminous lash look. The KMHMLC gives a black, lengthened, and lifted look to the lashes, so with the two in my arsenal I've got both day and night looks covered.

Sidenote, if you have almond shaped eyes, the Shiseido curler is the business!

The Clio Salon de Cara yadda yadda Mascara comes in a black mascara tube, covered with a silver sticker containing all of the product information, with a blue twist-off cap. Very R2D2-esque hurhur... May the 4th be with you. The wand is very straight and thin, and the bristles are longer on one side than the other. The lengthy side is the 'back comb' side. Since the shape of the wand isn't conical or variegated at all, it's oftentimes a bit clunky to use when it comes to getting the shorter lashes near the inner corners.

The formula of the mascara is not a wet formula, but not a dry one either; it's more of a paste with microfibers in it. The thickness of the formula helps to pump up the lashes, giving them a voluminous look, while the fibers grab onto the lashes, giving them some length. I'm not as impressed with the lengthening prowess of this mascara when compared to the Majolica Majorca Lash Expander Edge Meister mascara, but it does do a fair job in this arena.

Below are some before and after shots of having applied one coat of this mascara.

The mascara performs quite well at giving the lashes a very black, full-bodied look and decent length. The formula is a bit heavier than other fiber lashes so it doesn't hold a curl as long, but it will get you through a workday without any need for touchups.

Next, the fiber lashes don't migrate at all onto other areas of the face and just stay put, doing their job making your lashes reach for the sky. The formula is waterproof and smudgeproof and removes easily with a cleansing oil or biphase makeup remover. Alas for me it only smudges under the outer third of my left eye which is something that is unavoidable. (It's not the mascara, it's me).  The only downside to this mascara is the fact that sometimes it's difficult to get a naturally curled look and the lashes splay out unevenly. This is an issue that occurs with many a fiber lash mascara though, so I can overlook it.

I rate this mascara a great pickup and not just for the price, I think it's Clio-rly worth it.

Where can you pick up the Clio Salon de Cara Back Comb Mascara?

W2Beauty $20.82 Use this link here to receive $5 off of your first purchase at W2Beauty

Birchbox $30* for a set containing the mascara and a Clio Salon De Cara mascara remover, honestly I'm not sure if you would need the remover at all if you have a great cleansing oil, balm, makeup remover, or micellar water at home, but I'll still link the set here.
ClubClio $30 for the same set

Are you a fiber mascara gal or one for more traditional formulas?

I'm still in the middle of testing some skincare but rest assured, more skincare reviews are on the way - I'm really into wash-off packs lately.
